largest LTE trial site in UK**
Telefónica
O2 UK recently announced
the launch of their 2nd trial LTE network in London, currently the
largest LTE trial site in the UK.
Cellular Systems Limited are proud to reveal that as with the first trial LTE network in Slough they were the exclusive build partner for the London trial, responsible for acquisition rights, build and rigging of all the sites including the O2 arena in docklands.
The trial is using the 2.6GHz spectrum band under a test and development licence granted to O2 by Ofcom the same spectrum used for the first LTE trial at O2 headquarters in Slough in 2009/2010, the infrastructure again built by Cellular Systems Ltd.
Other companies involved in the trial were Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) which provided both radio and core network elements. and microwave radio equipment for backhaul has been supplied by Cambridge Broadband Networks Limited, NEC and NSN.
Steve Brown, Major Strategic Trial Co-ordinator for Telefónica O2 UK thanked Cellular Systems and partners in the trial for the hard work involved to integrate the network using leading edge new technologies and resolving some dificult acquisition issues in Central London.
Joe Drinkwater MD of Cellular Systems commented "We were delighted to be chosen again as the preferred build contractor for a trial network by Telefónica O2 . Despite the difficulties of the work involved in one of the busiest cities in the world, the network was built and delivered on time. As the 4G network evolves in the UK Cellular Systems will partner with suppliers and operators to bring the superfast mobile broadband network the customers now expect."
Announcement of the trial by Derek McManus, CTO of Telefónica O2 was covered extensively by the press and TV news reports, see links below.
